    • Safe sleep

Regulation 5.4.2.3: Staff shall ensure that infants sleep in cribs or port-a-cribs. Infants shall not be placed to sleep on soft surfaces, such as a couch or sofa, pillow, quilts, sheepskins or blankets. Infants shall not be placed in car seats, swings, high chairs, jumping chairs or similar equipment for sleep. A child that falls asleep in this type of equipment shall be gently transferred to a crib or port-a-crib as soon as feasible.

“An infant younger than 12 months old fell asleep in a stroller during a walk. When the group arrived back in the classroom, the child was left to sleep in the stroller for approximately 14 minutes while the staff attended to diaper and clothing changes for other children. Staff did state that the child needed to be moved to a crib but continued with other tasks before moving the child. Corrective Action: Develop a plan to ensure that sleeping infants are moved to a crib in a timely manner to ensure compliance with this regulation. Send the plan to sarah.crosier@vermont.gov for review.”

    • Staff training and qualifications

Regulation 7.1.2.2: Staff who are counted in the staff/child ratios and auxiliary staff left alone with children and/or counted in staff/child ratio as specified in the rule 6.2.1.8 of these regulations shall obtain training in pediatric first aid and in infant and child CPR within three (3) months of beginning work in the CBCCPP and remain currently certified.

“Three staff employed longer than 3 months did not have current first aid and CPR documentation. All three completed the training and certificates were sent to licensing on 6/30 and 7/1 following the visit. Corrective Action: Staff identified have completed the training and provided documentation. Develop a plan to ensure that each new staff completes the training within 3 months of their start date, and that all staff renew their certification prior to their current certification expiring. Notify sarah.crosier@vermont.gov when this is complete.”
