Choosing a daycare

  1. 1

    Check the license first

Read a listing's state license, status, capacity and ages before you call. Where no license record is matched yet, the listing links the state's own search.

  2. 2

    Center or home

Both are listed: child care centers and home daycares. They differ in group size, hours and setting.

  3. 3

    Ask about cost

Few daycares post prices. Each listing shows the county median from the U.S. Department of Labor where it has one.

  4. 4

    Visit before you enroll

Go during the day, watch a room at work and bring your questions.

Questions

Questions about daycare near me

How many daycares are listed?

Over 200,000 daycares in over 15,000 US towns across 50 states and DC. Most come from state license records; the rest come from public business listings. Each state and town page shows its own count.

Are all of these daycares licensed?

Not all are confirmed. Most listings come from the state's own child care license records and show the license type and status as the state publishes it. In Kansas, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon and Rhode Island, the state's license list is not on DaycarePal yet, so listings there come from public business listings; each of those pages says that no license record is matched yet.

How is the list sorted?

Providers on paid plans are listed first, then A to Z by name. We do not rank daycares.

Can I see a daycare's inspections?

Yes, in the 26 states whose inspection records we carry. In other states, use the state's own search, linked on each state page.
