    • Health, medication and illness

Regulation 5.6.5: All prescription medication administered by staff shall be in its original container, properly labeled for the child, and administered prior to the expiration date on the container.

“Pre-K children's medications are stored and administered by the school nurse. During this visit it was identified that three(3) seperate children had expired asthma inhalers. Two(2) expired in April of 2025 and one(1) expired in September of 2024. The nurse stated that they did email the family of the child with the inhaler that expired in September, but acknowledged that they did not follow up when the family did not provide a new inhaler. It should be noted that although the medications are montitored by the school nurse, the program director is held accountable for compliance with this regulation. Corrective Action: Please create a system that identifies a system for monitoring medication expiration dates and ensures that the medication is returned to the family and the family provides new medication. This system will also document when and how the family was contacted and will track what steps were taken if the family does not supply the new medication. Please email a description of this system to this licensor.”

Documentation, verification of qualifications, and all annual professional development activities as specified in the rules in sections 7.3 and 7.4 of these regulations shall be submitted to Northern Lights at CCV to be verified and maintained in BFIS.
