Regulation 5.4.1.4: Cots, mats, and mattresses shall be nonporous or have nonporous coverings. Each child shall be provided clean, individual bed linens either by the FCCP providing them or requiring parents to provide them. No child shall nap directly on nonporous coverings.
“During the visit, one child was observed to be lying in a pack and play for rest. The pack and play appeared to either have holes in the bottom mat or be covered with a sheet that had holes in it. The provider stated that the child had soiled the original sheet prior to rest time and she had used the only spare sheet she had, which had holes in it. This is considered a safety hazard. Corrective Action: Immediately plan to ensure that each child has a nonporous mat, crib mattress or crib mat that is in good repair and that the nonporous surface is covered by bed linens which are also in good repair. Develop a system which will ensure that all sleeping surfaces and linens are maintained in good repair and that there are sufficient spare linens in good repair for use during similar circumstances moving forward.”
