    • Discipline and child guidance

      13A.16.07.01

“A complaint was received that a staff person had given a child (3rd grade), with a known peanut allergy, a piece of candy that had peanut butter in it. During the inspection the Director was interviewed in person and the teacher via telephone. The Director explained that the teacher brought the child to her shortly after the child ate the candy. She was told that another child gave the candy to the child, not the teacher. She viewed the footage from the classroom and saw that the teacher did in fact give this child, as well as other children, the candy. This LS also observed the footage of what transpired and saw at about 7:24am the teacher opens a gift bag. She pulls out a bag of candy, opens it and disperses some candy to a few of the children. The teacher is also seen eating some of the candy. At 7:26am the child is seen getting up and walking to the bathroom. The Director further reported that after the child went to the teacher complaining of her throat she brought the child to the Director. The Director had the child rinse and gargle with water. She also instructed the teacher to contact the parent. See remarks for further details.”

Be assigned to a group of children or have access to a child in care until the individual has successfully passed the child abuse and neglect clearance and a Federal and State criminal background check. A complaint was received that a person was working at the center that had not been cleared by Office of Child Care (OCC). The person in question had been working at the owner's other center in another county, therefore, the owner thought she would be clear to work at this site. The owner stated that the person began working on October 21 at this site and once she received the notification on October 22 from the LS that the person was not clear to work, she sent the staff person home. The Licensing Specialist inspected each room at the center and the staff person was not observed. The owner was reminded not to allow any person to begin working until written notice is given by OCC that the person is clear to work.”
