Regulation 5.10.1.5.5: The FCCP shall ensure that all heating and cooling equipment is safely shielded to prevent injury to children and approved for use by the Vermont Division of Fire Safety.
“There is a pellet stove that is unblocked and accessible in front of the bottom of the stairs children use to access the program space. The stove is approximately five feet from the bottom step. The stove was burning during this visit and the glass front was hot to the touch. Corrective Action: The stove is to be made inaccessible to children. Until such time as a gate is installed, an adult must position themselves between children and the stove when any child is in that area to use the stairs.”
