Regulation 6.2.6.1: Staff shall be able to hear all children of pre-kindergarten age and younger at all times, shall be able to see the children with a quick glance, and shall be able to physically respond immediately.

“At the beginning of morning snack, a child exited the preschool classroom and went into the empty older preschool classroom next door. Then they exited the older preschool classroom, went into the main hallway and then reentered the preschool classroom through the main door. Both staff supervising the children were not aware that the child had left the preschool classroom until the child reentered the room. Corrective Action: Effective immediately, all children must be supervised. The entry into the adjacent older preschool classroom has a solid curtain door that can be closed and this should be closed to help prevent children from being able to run out of the classroom without staff noticing. It was discussed that the program may also put a magnetic chime on the main door of the classroom to help alert staff to when it is opened. Submit confirmation of the plan that staff will use to ensure children remain in the classroom and under supervision.”
