“During the inspection today, there was a prescription bottle of medication for one child observed in the Assistant Director's desk, which was not locked, and accessible to the children. The Assistant Director stated the medication is usually kept in the locked file cabinet located behind her desk and stated it was her mistake that it was put back into the desk after the medication was administered to the child last. The Assistant Director relocated the medication bottle to the locked file cabinet while the Licensing Specialist was present. This was corrected on site.”

“While the Licensing Specialist was present at the center today, the Assistant Director reported a child had been injured playing 'ball tag' on Monday of this week and was seen for medical attention Monday night. The child was diagnosed with a broken finger. The Assistant Director forwarded the communication between her and the child's parent to the Licensing Specialist during the inspection and stated she would send the Licensing Specialist a copy of the parent signed incident report on Thursday, September 17. Notification was made to the Licensing Specialist, so this was corrected on site. The center is reminded when children are injured at the center and receive medical attention, notification should be made to the Office of Child Care within 24 hours.”

“When Licensing Specialist arrived at the center at approximately 2:05pm, there were 13 children present in the child care room with the Director. These children were not checked in on the attendance sheet. When additional children arrived back at the center, those children were checked in on the attendance sheet, as were the other children who hadn't previously been checked in. Once all the children were checked in, this was corrected. Center staff are reminded that children should be checked in and out of the center on the center attendance sheets, as well as on the van transportation AM drop and PM load sheets. This was discussed during the inspection with the Assistant Director and she stated she would re-iterate the policies and procedures to all staff, van drivers and substitutes.”
