    • Safety and hazards

      13A.15.10.02

“Regarding potentially hazardous items, located in the basement at the bottom of the stairs, there is a refrigerator to the left of the stairs. The refrigerator's electrical cord travels from the back of the refrigerator, across the floor which is directly in front of the barrier and stairs that is then connected to an extension cord power strip that then plugs into the wall. The concern is that this cord that travels in front of the steps is a potentially hazardous safety concern, as children and parents would be entering and departing this area and the concern that this could potentially be a tripping hazard. Also, the electrical cord power strip is located on the floor at the edge of the steps. The easiest solution as discussed, would be to potentially relocate the refrigerator to the right side of the stairs, which would alleviate the power strip from running on the floor in front of the steps. The refrigerator could then be directly plugged into the wall.”

“The provider will be operating her child care out of her basement. There are a significant amount of cement steps that lead from the basement to the ground level fenced-in back yard. There was no barrier at the top of these cement steps at the time of the inspection. This is an extreme safety hazard for children in care. The provider indicated that she will have a barrier professionally installed at these steps. Also, there are a few steps that lead from the outdoor patio into the main level of the home. This set of steps will need a barrier as well for safety of the children. The provider stated she will have these barriers installed and will contact the Licensing Specialist to schedule a follow-up inspection in about 3 weeks.”

      13A.15.05.04B(2)

“At the time of the inspection, the provider stated she was only using the basement. She would also be using the main level living room for children to arrive and depart from child care. There were no barriers at other rooms on the main level located near this living room to prevent accessibility. The provider stated she may have the Fire Marshal reinspect the main level so that this floor may be approved for use. A follow-up inspection will take place.”
    • Building, equipment and play areas

      13A.15.05.01D

“At the time of the inspection, the provider stated she would like to operate solely out of her basement, with the kitchen, which is on her main level as being off-limits. There was no cooking element, such as a microwave, located in the basement. There was a refrigerator located in the basement. Upon further discussion of the layout of the provider's home, she indicated that she would decide if she would like to have her main level kitchen area approved and would reach out to the Fire Marshal to request a supplemental inspection. The kitchen is currently not approved by the Fire Marshal. As of today, the provider stated she will reach out to the Fire Marshal's office to discuss having other areas of the main level of her home approved for child care. As discussed, If the main level kitchen is approved for child care, then the microwave is not required to be located in the basement; however, it was discussed that it would allow for convenience options for the provider. If the provider chooses not to have the kitchen approved, then the microwave would be required to have located in the basement. The provider stated she would reach out the Lic. Specialist once her decision is made.”
