The child was hesitant to go into the classroom and that is when it happened. Findings: A cleared staff person who was in training pulled a child's arm to get them further into the classroom. This is considered injurious treatment and is not permitted by the staff. The staff person walked off the job and is no longer employed.”

“The infant/toddler teacher was on her lunch break and two aides were in the infant room with the children. Center is reminded that when the qualified teacher in the infant room goes on break another infant qualified teacher needs to take her place. The infant qualified teacher is off on Fridays so the center needs to put an infant qualified staff in the room for the whole day then. Center needs to send a staffing pattern to show how this is corrected.”

“It was reported that a 2 year old child bit a staff person and the staff person tapped the child under his chin and said we don't bite. It was reported that the staff person stated it was a knee-jerk reaction. Findings: Spoke with the witness and she explained that the group was lining up outside to come in. The child didn't want to line up. The staff person went to the child and took his hand leading him back to the line. The child bit the staff person on the arm and left teeth marks. The witness stated that the staff person tapped the child on the chin in reaction. The witness stated it appeared not to be aggressive but just a tap. The child did not cry and there was no mark. Center is reminded that staff must not put their hands on children as a form of discipline. Center needs to review appropriate discipline with all staff and send evidence to specialist as a correction for this.”
