    • Supervision and ratios

Regulation 6.2.4.4: When children are outside playing, the FCCP and/or staff shall be outside supervising the children. If due to the mixed ages of the children and the need to step away to meet basic care needs of children, the FCCP and/or staff may supervise the school age children from inside the home provided that the children can be seen from inside and the outside play area is fenced to prevent the children from leaving the play area. Children younger than school age shall not play outside without the FCCP and/or staff person present at any time.

“Upon arrival at the program at approximately 11:15 AM, there were four children, including one preschool aged child, on the playground without an adult. This licensor walked through the playground and to the side door of the house which leads to the playground. The door was closed. This licensor knocked on the door and waited several minutes. This licensor knocked again at the door and the provider came to the door and opened it. At approximately 11:23 AM, one school age child was called inside to wash hands. At approximately 11:25 AM, the preschool age child was called in from the playground to wash hands. At approximately 11:27 AM and 11:29 AM, the other two school age children were called inside to wash hands. The preschool age child was outside without an adult for at least 10 minutes. Corrective Action: Immediately plan to ensure that children younger than school age are accompanied by an approved staff at all times. Develop a system which will ensure that all children are supervised while playing outside unless attending to a child's basic care needs. When attending to a child's basic care needs requires you to go inside, develop a system which will ensure that all children under the age of school age are in direct supervision of an approved staff.”
