Reading the numbers

Where these figures come from

These prices come from the U.S. Department of Labor's National Database of Childcare Prices, which records what providers charged in each county in 2022. The Nevada figure is the price in the middle county of the 17. Every county counts the same, so a small rural county weighs as much as Clark County, where most Nevadans live, and that keeps the state figure well below big-city prices.

Prices have gone up since 2022. Too few Nevada daycares post a full-time rate on their websites for us to give a 2026 figure, so treat these numbers as a starting point and ask each daycare for its current rate.

Paying for care

Ways to lower the cost

Nevada's Child Care and Development Program, run by the Division of Social Services, helps families with lower incomes pay part of the cost of child care. On DaycarePal, 18 Nevada daycares are listed as accepting child care assistance so far: see the Nevada daycares that accept it. Many more may take it, so ask each daycare.

Head Start and Early Head Start are free for families who qualify, mostly by income, and serve children from birth to age 5. For a 4-year-old, also ask your school district whether it runs a free pre-K class.

A home daycare or a part-time schedule can bring the weekly price down. When you compare daycares, ask about registration fees, sibling discounts and whether you pay for weeks your child is away.
