Reading the numbers
Where these figures come from
The U.S. Department of Labor's 2022 county price survey has no figures for Indiana, so there is no county-by-county price here. Instead, the prices on this page come from the 57 Indiana daycares that post a full-time rate on their websites, one rate per daycare, with half-day and part-week rates left out.
Most of those daycares are centers (80.7%), so the figures say more about centers than home daycares. They also show a range: the middle half of posted infant rates runs from $226 to $299 a week. Too few daycares post a school-age rate to show one.
Paying for care
Ways to lower the cost
Indiana's Family and Social Services Administration, through its Office of Early Childhood and Out-of-School Learning, runs the Child Care and Development Fund program, which helps families with lower incomes pay for care. On DaycarePal, 2,591 Indiana daycares are listed as accepting child care assistance: see the Indiana daycares that accept it.
On My Way Pre-K is Indiana's state-funded pre-K, free for 4-year-olds from families who qualify by income. Head Start and Early Head Start are also free for families who qualify and serve children from birth to age 5.
Home daycares, 1,465 of them listed in Indiana, and part-time schedules can cost less. Ask each daycare about registration fees, sibling discounts and what you pay for weeks your child is away.
