Regulation 5.10.1.1: General Safety: The FCCP shall ensure the physical facilities of the FCCH, grounds, equipment, and toys present no hazard to the health, safety and well-being of the children.
“Significant wear and tear was observed of the building materials in the Living room/play room. The wooden built-in shelves were observed to have multiple areas of missing paint. The Fireplace mantel was missing large amounts of paint and appeared to have been partially removed/scraped. Paint chips were observed flaking off and some on the floor in the corners of the carpet. The carpet was observed to be pulled away from the corner and had dried paint on it and paint chips. The left side of the hearth was accessible and it was observed to be higher than the surrounding carpet. One side of the room was sectioned off with large furniture. The opening to this area had a child sized chair and adult sized chair blocking children's access. An infant was observed climbing and pushing on the child sized chair. The area on the other side of these items was a designated office area and included several hazards to children, including but not limited to electrical cords, open electrical outlets and choking hazards. Corrective Action: A secure gate must be placed around the fireplace, including the hearth and several inches away from the mantel, to protect children from access to paint chips. The chair blocking the office area of the room must be replaced with a gate or an item that no child can climb over or push. Repaint all furniture that is missing paint.
